General Overview:

The position is responsible for setting up, operating, editing, and troubleshooting Mazak and/or Matsuura CNC machines. This includes addressing alarms, maintaining custom fixturing, and assisting with process improvement to ensure business results are achieved.

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Set-up, calibrate and operate CNC machines in an efficient manner.
  • Install, adjust and maintain various fixtures (i.e. vacuum plates, vises, center point chucks)
  • Assist with process development with NX programmers, Engineers and Management
  • Diagnose then recover from machine alarms
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand CNC Programs and layouts as required
  • Work with and coach operators on a daily basis
  • Make offsets for cutting tools
  • Complete machining operations on various materials
  • Recalibrate mills after maintenance was completed
  • Perform new CNC machine set-up and changes
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on machines
  • Adhere to all quality and safety standards within the department
  • Maintain clean and organized work area with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilization
  • Comply with state and federal law safety regulations in addition to company safety and security procedures
  • Continually seek to improve work processes and individual performance
  • Assist in training of other employees
  • Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures

  • Perform other duties asked or assigned 
  • Some travel is required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 year degree in Machine Technology or CNC trade school diploma required; Bachelor degree in related field of study a plus
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in either a prototype or job shop environment setting up and operating CNC equipment (lathe or mill) required; tooling experience a plus
  • Experience with 3, 4 and 5 axis mill/ lathe setup and operation
  • Experience operating Mazak machines a plus
  • Experience operating Matsuura machines a plus
  • Experience with NX Unigraphics CAD/CAM software a plus
  • Must be mechanically inclined
  • Understand the concept of tool wear and cutter compensation
  • Must be able to work well socially with others
  • Knowledge of cutting feeds, speeds, and tool life
  • Knowledge of GD&T symbols
  • Knowledge of CNC mill/lathe setup and operation as well as shrink fit tooling
  • Skilled in the use of measuring instruments such as indicators, gage blocks, dial bores, and inspection plate methods along with in-process inspection of precision machined parts
  • Ability to work with close tolerances (within .001”) of all processes
  • Ability to comprehend work offsets
  • Understanding of G & M code and able to do minor G & M or EIA Mazatrol programming
  • Able to safely operate hand held and stationary power tools
  • Ability to follow direction from supervisors, technical leads and computer or printed instructions
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Pragmatic and pro-active problem resolution skills required
  • Superior organizational skills, analytical skills as well as time management and prioritization abilities
  • High standard of attention to detail required
  • High level of confidentiality required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with different levels of management and teams
  • Must be punctual and have good attendance
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed
  • Valid Driver’s License and able to pass full background check and drug testing

Physical Requirements: 

  • Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and drawings and to inspect machined parts closely
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work
  • Able to lift or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
  • Stand, squat, kneel, or sit for extended periods of time
